Leeds parties team up to promote voter registration
As the deadline approaches to register to vote in the general election this June, a number of Leeds-based club night organisers are looking to mobilise young people in the city through a series of parties ahead of the May 22nd cut-off.
Some of the figures behind Puddles, Love Muscle, Hyde Park Book Club, Brotherhood Sound, Cosmic Slop, Brudenell Groove, On Rotation, Glug Glug and the And/Or Emporium will be bringing the focus to the election at their events in the coming days and weeks.
At their event on Friday 19th May at Hyde Park Book Club, Puddles will be providing a laptop for voter registration and offering free posters for the event to the first few to register on the night - click the image below to visit the Facebook event page:
Love Muscle will also be hosting a voting registration service at their event at Wharf Chambers on Saturday 20th May, in a bid to encourage members of the LGBT+ community to become further politcally active:
On the day of the registration deadline, Monday 22nd May, Hyde Park Book Club will be hosting a free party bringing together local talents from Leeds’ music, arts and food scene, with a voter registration service offered throughout:
A few weeks later on Wednesday 7th June, a day before the election itself, DJs from Cosmic Slop, On Rotation, Brudenell Groove and more will take to the decks at Wire, with entry free for those with proof of voter registration:
The percentage of voter turnout from the 18-24 age group is often considerably lower than in older age ranges, and through these events the promoters are seeking to increase voter registration and encourage young people to have their say in the June 8th ballot. If you haven't done so already, you can register to vote through this link: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
