Craig Richards curates new festival, Houghton
Curated by long-standing Fabric resident Craig Richards and produced by the team behind Gottwood, Houghton launches as a three-day art and music festival in August 2017, in the grounds of Houghton Hall in Norfolk.
The festival looks set to follow the Gottwood model, with a number of world-renowned DJs performing in the intimate and picturesque estate. With Richards drawing upon his impressive contacts book for the line-up, acts unveiled so far include Nicolas Jaar, Floating Points, Seth Troxler, Roman Flügel, Ben UFO and Ricardo Villalobos, who will be performing solo as well as bringing VILOD, his live project with Max Loderbauer, to the UK for the first time. The line-up is not purely house and techno-orientated, with Nighmares On Wax, Mr. Scruff, Trojan Sound System, Adrian Sherwood and The Orb co-founder Dr. Alex Paterson also featuring.
Houghton will also reflect Richards' interest in art as it is home to its own sculpture park, with installations from James Turrell, Zhan Wang, Andrew Long and more.
"Some while ago now the guys from Gottwood approached me to curate something new. I've always seen myself as more of a collector than a curator. I'm also much more of an artist than an organiser. I made it clear that the people invited to perform would be chosen on merit. All will be chefs not waiters. All are artists whose talent I value immensely. It is my intention that the festival represents the very best in electronic music and those performing are closest to my heart and record box" - Craig Richards
The festival - a 90-minute train journey from London - takes place across August 11th-13th 2017, with tickets on-sale now through the Houghton website.
